Accounting Salaries Up This Year
While many graduating colleges are entering an uncertain and even depressing economic landscape, those with the foresight to major in accounting are actually seeing improving conditions compared to previous years, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, a professional organization composed of people working in human resources and college career services. The research, compiled in a recently issued report, shows that the average salaries for accounting majors has grown 3.7 percent since last year, meaning that the average accountant can expect to make about $50,500. At the low end, according to the survey, are accounting majors working in tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services, who make an average of $47,050. BY contrast, the highest paying areas in the profession are those who work in finance: securities, commodities and financial investment employers give, on average, about $53,910 a year to enterprising individuals.
