COAP Programs Encourage Diversity in Accounting
The NYSSCPA and FAE are offering the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program at 10 different colleges and universities across the state beginning this week, with a total of 336 high school juniors participating.
Through its COAP Program, the NYSSCPA and FAE offer a learning experience developed to expose promising minority high school students to accounting and business careers. Founded in 1987, COAP offers students a tailored curriculum and extensive opportunities to interact with successful minority role models and gain exposure to the corporate environment.
COAP programs are being held at:
- SUNY Albany (June 28 to July 1);
- SUNY Buffalo (June 27 to July 1);
- SUNY Oswego (June 27 to 30);
- SUNY New Paltz (June 25 to July 1);
- SUNY Brockport (June 27 to 30);
- St. John’s University (July 7 to 11);
- Hofstra University (June 26 to 30);
- Long Island University/Brooklyn Campus (June 27 to July 2);
- Pace University/Pleasantville Campus (June 27 to July 1); and
- Westchester Community College (June 28 to July 1).
Over 2,460 students have taken part in COAP programs since they began in 1987 with the first COAP Summer Residency at Pace University. This is the 24th year the COAP program has been held at Pace. Recent surveys have shown on average 90 percent of COAP graduates have gone on to college and 53 percent have studied business or accounting.
