Meet the New SEC Enforcement Division Chief Accountant
See this guy to the left? His name is Howard Scheck, and he's the new chief accountant in the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
So new, in fact, that the speech he gave today at the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity's Financial Reporting Conference was his first public presentation.
In that address, he outlined the SEC's actions in several major civil suits and cases, including a few originating from the subprime mortgage crisis.
He also detailed some new enforcement initiatives at the commission, including five new units. He said the new Asset Management Unit will deal with hedge funds and private equity; the Market Abuse Unit will deal with insider trading and market manipulation; the Structured and New Products Unit will handle derivatives; the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Unit will address violations of that act; and a new unit will be devoted to municipal securities.
